Requirement: Design

solution for managing New
Product Development, from
ideation to launch utilizing
Clarity 7.5.3. The tool must
facilitate the collaboration
and approval of ideas and
projects across 1000+ resources
in various countries and
disciplines, adhering to
a strict Stage-Gate process
to ensure maximum product
quality and marketability.
Approach: Our
team worked closely with a large
and diverse team of Marketing,
Engineering, and IT groups to
gather requirements, design the
system, plan for the migration
from existing systems, and prepare
for a gradual rollout. Catalyst
developed a prototype of the
designed solution and demonstrated
the “future state” to the client
stakeholders to finalize the
design and gain buy-in from the
user community. We designed data
conversions and extensions of
the base code to support custom
security and object requirements,
and created and delivered the
end-user training, including
training on changes in responsibilities.
Results: The
highly customized solution stretched
the standard Clarity capabilities
of Process, Project, Resource,
and Portfolio Management to support
the unique requirements. Catalyst
worked with CA to ensure necessary
product improvements were rolled
out into standard Clarity releases,
primarily Process Manager enhancements
that were incorporated into Clarity
8.1. The result was a tighter
Stage-Gate process with more
structure and rigor around the
deliverables guaranteeing appropriate
approvals. Also, a Portfolio
with global visibility into the
stage of all R&D projects,
and with standardization of data
captured and required deliverables,
the ability to perform real-time
comparison of research information
on similar projects.

Requirement: Manage
the implementation of Clarity
7.5 in the areas of Project,
Financial, Resource and Time
management for the Professional
Services Organization. Eliminate
multiple legacy systems from
various divisions and replace
with a single global solution
to manage 8000 projects and 2000
resources.
Approach: Catalyst
gathered the requirements from
10+ business units and defined
one overall Clarity business
process and system solution.
We developed a prototype for
demonstration and validation,
and designed the interfaces to
Oracle and Softrax billing and
accounting systems. Our team
tested the application and interfaces
extensively, and developed the
training and support plan for
global rollout in the US, Europe
and Asia.
Results: This
project gave the client, for
the first time, global visibility
of resource allocations and revenue
projections based on hours allocated.
The client continues to rollout
the designed Clarity processes
and system to other global departments,
using the same approach as defined
by Catalyst for newly-acquired
subsidiaries.
Southeastern
Insurance General Agency IT Project
Management
Requirement: Upgrade from Niku
6.1.5 to Clarity 7 and design future business
processes for the IT organizations that included
best practices for managing projects, resources
and time. Account for a reorganization in the
design, and train 80 existing and new employees
on the proper usage of Clarity and Open Workbench.
Approach: A team of Catalyst
and IT personnel, over a 4 month period, defined
the future processes, developed a Clarity prototype
to demonstrate the end to end future functionality,
implemented the system, and trained the user
community on changes in the system and responsibilities.
Catalyst also assisted in the upgrade to Clarity
7, providing guidance to the client technical
team, but allowing them to gain direct experience
in the process.
Results: By defining the business
process before configuring the system, we were
able to design a solution that worked well with
the unique client requirements, but also utilized
the Clarity functionality effectively. The reengineered
processes and systems enabled the client to more
effectively manage and monitor the internal IT
organization. The client was also able to improve
project capitalization and receive the financial
benefits from this improved capitalization.
Leading Global Provider
of Non-Profit Software Professional Services
and Development
Requirement: Upgrade
from Proamics Project Accounting to Clarity
7.5 and design future business processes for
the Professional Services and Development organizations
using best practices for managing Projects,
Financials, Resources and Time. Provide subject
matter expertise on mapping Proamics features
to Clarity functionality, including changes
required to user responsibilities, reports
and fields.
Approach: Catalyst initially
provided an orientation to the client on the
changes in features with Clarity. We assisted
the client in developing the future business
processes, configuring a prototype for demonstration
and validation, and creating the training materials
for 225 users. The client relied heavily on Catalyst
on the financial management details, given the
significant change in versions and their multi-currency
requirement.
Results: After the implementation,
Catalyst continued to work with the client on
future enhancements and changes. Other departments
have since adopted the system and business processes.
